The 2009 Power Beaming Challenge has ended, with LaserMotive taking home the only prize this year.   Details on how they won the U$900,000 at LaserMotive’s blog.

Press coverage was extensive, from New Scientist (via RLVNews.com) and Popular Science (via SpaceToday.net and RLVNews.com) to Alan Boyle’s Cosmic Log science blog at MSNBC and RLVNews.com.

Clark S. Lindsay of Relaunchable Vehicle News had the most extensive and timely coverage, with 9 posts in seven days, and many links to other web coverage.  Go to the RLVNews.com website, and scroll down the page until you see his blog Categories on the right; click on Space Prizes to see all these reports

The competition is managed by the Spaceward Foundation, for NASA’s Centennial Challenges, “NASA’s Prize Program for the Citizen-Inventor.”

As a Lasermotive sponsor (Spindrift Space Gallery, SpinSpace) since 2007, I recently blogged about this competition, and am thrilled that we won!
